When Andrea Lötscher heard about women in Latvia who had preserved their traditional European healing knowledge to this day, she had the idea to make the documentary BALTIC HEALING.
In the summer of 2023, Andrea Lötscher & Baiba Baika travelled to Latvia to meet with four women healers working in the pirts, the traditional Latvian sauna.
The resulting documentary feature BALTIC HEALING premiered in spring of 2024, and in the same year had more than a dozen cinema and open-air screenings.
When Andrea Lötscher experienced a pirts ritual with Ilga Šteinerte Gavare (one of the healers in the film), on her next visit to Latvia, the idea for the workshops was born.
Since January 2025, Ilga Šteinerte Gavare and Andrea Lötscher are leading Pirts- and Amanita rituals in Dortmund.
Since 2026, Ilga Šteinerte Gavare is organising and leading Summer Retreats for Women and International Pirts Camps in Latvia.
